Is there any way to participate in one of the Interactive Arts programs and still have a job?
What is the cost of the program?
Are there faculty positions available?
Is the course only open to the under 30 age group?
Q. So, I'm very interested in this program. However, my problem is this. I have a 9:30-5:30 job in downtown Manhattan. And times being what they are, it's not possible to give it up. Is there any way to participate in one of the Interactive Arts programs and still have a job?
A. The Advanced Certificate program is designed for people who have full- or part-time jobs: required classes are taught in the evenings starting at 6:30 (PIMA 701, 702 & 703). It is definitely not easy to complete the certificate while working full time, but it is possible and a number of students have done it. It is quite managable to complete the Certificate while working a part-time job.
The M.F.A. program is an enormous time commitment by comparison, and the faculty consider it impossible to complete the M.F.A. in two years while working full time, and possibly impossible to complete it at all while working full time. There are a number of required daytime classes and, particularly in the second year, a tremendous amount of time committed to the thesis collaboration. It is possible to complete the M.F.A. in two years while working part-time, but even this will pose difficulties.
Q. What is the cost of the program?
A. Current tuition is listed at:

Q. My background includes work as a visual and sound artist and musician. I have a MA ... and a diverse performance/exhibition history. I would be interested in applying for faculty positions should they be available.
A. We have no faculty positions open at this point -- the program is staffed by current faculty from the six cooperating departments on a rotating basis -- so until the program grows considerably we will be using existing faculty resources.
Your credentials sound like those of many students in the program, several of whom are university faculty themselves, and many of whom hold master's degrees.
Q. Is the course only open to the under 30 age group?
A. There are no age restrictions on application or admission to the program. Classes and programs at Brooklyn College tend to be diverse in terms of age, ethnicity and cultural background.
Since the announcement of the program I've been contacted by a wide range of people, from recent college graduates through retirees, and I'm very pleased at the diversity of potential applicants.
Q. Will the students have the opportunity to use video cameras and other equipment outside of the school to work on their projects?
A. Yes -- each participating department has its own rules:
TV/Radio allows 1 night overnight sign-out; we can make special requests for longer sign-out periods.
The Conservatory of Music & Art Department work on a case-by-case basis -- sign out durations are coordinated around student needs.
Computer Science & Interactive Arts only sign out to Interactive Arts students, so sign-out duration is very flexible.
Theater does not currently provide any equipment for sign-out.
